The third remake of the director’s own 2010 Malayalam film, Bodyguard, the film is being produced by Atul Agnihotri and features Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor in the lead roles. It also stars Raj Babbar, Mahesh Manjrekar and Hazel Keech in supporting roles. The film’s first look and theatrical trailer was unveiled on 21 July 2011. But some disappointed viewers thought, bodyguard had some similarities with gajini and kuch kuch hota hai. But they considered it as a average movie. Inshort fun to watch for once only
The film broke many records upon its release. Within the first day of its release, it went on to become the highest opening day grosser as well as the biggest grosser ever for a single day, breaking the records earlier held by Dabangg, another Salman-starrer.
The film sees Khan play a bodyguard to Kareena Kapoor and is a remake of the 2010 Malayalam-language movie of the same name.
“Salman Khan’s ‘Bodyguard’ has smashed all previous records and has emerged the biggest opener ever in the history of Hindi cinema,” wrote Taran Adarsh.
The film took 215 million rupees (dollar 4.68 million) on Wednesday and 183 million rupees on Thursday, taking the two-day total to 398 million rupees, he said, using figures from studio Reliance Entertainment.
Both days were public holidays in India.
“The business is expected to zoom upwards from Friday onwards, when the weekend begins,” he wrote.
Adarsh said the film was also on course to break the record for opening weekend takings.
According to the boxofficeindia.com site, which tracks cinema takings, Khan’s award-winning corrupt cop movie from last year, “Dabangg” (Fearless), holds the record for first day takings in India with 193.4 million rupees gross.
“Dabangg” also holds the record for first weekend takings with 653.4 million rupees and for the first week at 1.08 billion rupees.
